2 out of 5 stars Severely Lacking   December 11, 2009

Very basic information. Like most Taunton videos I've watched it covers a very limited scope and a single application (except countertops).

He mentions checking the cabinets for straight but doesn't say what to do if they aren't. He talks about making sure the floor is relatively flat but again doesn't offer a remedy if it is not. Doesn't talk about finishing end cabinets. How many people are really going to use a water level for leveling cabinets? Not me. Stepping off with a level attached to an 8' straight edge is close enough. You're not building a foundation for god's sake. Why the section on corian countertop? I've never heard of corian and couldn't tell you a single person that has one. Glad I borrowed this from the library and didn't buy it.

Scribing cabinets should really be unneccesary other than an end cabinet that might have a visible gap or if your floor or wall is so far off that shimming isn't a reasonable approach.

The most useful info I got was the trick of attaching blocking between studs (especially for 12" or 15" cabinets that only hit one (or none) studs).

Very good info... it worked for me, kinda handy man, but it gave me some more knowledge to do the job myself... complete remodel of kitchen as the house was flooded by Hurricane Katrina.. needed all the help i could get.

4 out of 5 stars Good video   January 16, 2007

I learned a lot about making the marks on the wall and using a water level accurately. That explanation alone was very helpful. I liked watching him work and picked up some good tips like the typical spacing of the cabinets. I thought the tape could have done without the countertop manufacturing piece, I thought it was a waste of time, should have showed more of Tom adjusting the doors and things of that nature.

overall, worth the money.
